Mission House Construction Project
The Mission Office has been a bridge between the Diocese of Orlando in Florida and the Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic since 1983. During that time, the two communities have worked to build a sister relationship based on love, faith, trust, hope and respect.
Imagine traveling to a rural village in the Dominican Republic where people live in dirt huts, there is no plumbing or electricity, food is scarce, but there is an endless supply of hope. That is what hundreds of Orlando area missionaries experience when they visit our sister Diocese in the Dominican Republic.
The Mission Office has established ambitious new goals to significantly expand the program in San Juan de la Maguana, where so many of our special friends struggle to find sufficient food, safe drinking water, decent housing and adequate medical attention.
The Dreambuilders Housing Project is one area that will be enhanced under a five-year strategic plan developed by the Missions Commission of the Diocesan-wide Synod. The project aims to build 200 homes in our sister diocese over the next five years for families who are currently living in one room shacks, dirt floor huts built of mud and sticks.
